About Cyprus

Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean after Sardinia and Sicily. The estimated population is around 870.000. Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus and is situated near the centre of the island, unlike the other major cities which are located on the coast. Limassol is the second largest city, followed by Larnaca and Paphos, and all three are popular holiday resorts.

Entertainment in Cyprus is quite varied and there is something for everyone. The list is endless when it comes to cafés, bars, clubs, restaurants, outdoor activities, shopping and all kinds of events.

Cypriot foodis a regional cuisine with several of its own distinctive specialties including ‘mezedes’, a combination of many small portions of different kinds of dips, traditional starters, meats, poultry, etc. For fish lovers, fish mezedes are also available. Even though it is hard to find, ‘tsamarella’ (salt-cured meat) is really worth tasting along with a shot of frozen ‘zivania’ (40-50% alcohol, strong as hell!). Also, try our traditional white cheese ‘halloumi’, which tastes great especially when cooked on charcoal. ‘Souvlaki’ and ‘sheftalia’ are a must too and so is our traditional wine, ‘Commandaria’, which has a very sweet taste and can be sneaky if you have too much!  J

In Cyprus you can practice all kinds of outdoor sports including windsurfing, kitesurfing, wakeboarding, sailing, swimming, gliding, trekking, and climbing. Also snowboarding and skiing in winter.

Climate and Winds

Cyprus enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot dry summers from mid-May to mid-September and mild, sometimes rainy winters from November to mid-March, separated by short autumn and spring seasons. Snow falls frequently every winter on the Troodos mountain range. The coldest month is January (6ºC – 15ºC) and the hottest months are July and August (29ºC – 36ºC).

Winds range between force of 4-6 (11-27 knots) in summer (May to September) and between force of 5-9 (17-47 Knots) in winter (October-April).

Unless you want to sleep under the stars in a nice comfy tent then you have to book a room somewhere…if you want to be near the kitesurfing spot you can book a room near the spot. Just so you know, the distance between the kite spot and Limassol city is around 30 mins.

Also i have a quiet, relaxed place that is near the beach that you could stay for a few days 🙂

It is nice to have a car while in Cyprus. Roads are generally very good across the island, particularly the motorway system.
