A Mediterranean island with many historical treasures to discover, wonderful places to explore, delicious food, beautiful sandy beaches and lovely people!
About Cyprus
Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean after Sardinia and Sicily. The estimated population is around 870.000. Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus and is situated near the centre of the island, unlike the other major cities which are located on the coast. Limassol is the second largest city, followed by Larnaca and Paphos, and all three are popular holiday resorts.
Entertainment
Entertainment in Cyprus is quite varied and there is something for everyone. The list is endless when it comes to cafés, bars, clubs, restaurants, shopping, outdoor activities and all kinds of events.
Food
Cypriot food is a regional cuisine with several of its own distinctive specialties including ‘mezedes’, a combination of many small portions of different kinds of dips, traditional starters, meats, poultry, etc. For fish lovers, fish mezedes are also available. Even though it is hard to find, ‘tsamarella’ (salt-cured meat) is really worth tasting along with a shot of frozen ‘zivania’ (40-50% alcohol, strong as hell!). Also, try our traditional white cheese ‘halloumi’, which tastes great especially when cooked on charcoal. ‘Souvlaki’ and ‘Sheftalia’ are a must too and so is our traditional wine, ‘Commandaria’, which has a very sweet taste and can be sneaky if you have too much! ;-)
Sports
In Cyprus you can practice all kinds of outdoor sports including windsurfing, kitesurfing, wakeboarding, sailing, swimming, gliding, trekking, and climbing. Also snowboarding and skiing in winter.
